RPySOC 2024 - 21-22 November 2024
In-person tickets are fully booked for both days and we closed submissions of abstracts with more than we can possibly host over the two days! We are currently scoring the abstracts have updated the NHS-R Way book with details of how we are sifting and will be updating this as we go along.
Feel free to share any thoughts you have on the process as we are constantly learning!
We have been encouraging people to still sign up to the in-person ticket waiting lists as it gives us an idea of interest for future conference planning numbers. For those with tickets but can no longer attend we also ask that you cancel (currently you’ll have to email us at nhs.rcommunity@nhs.net) so we can then pass your ticket on to someone else which will, no doubt, be gratefully received!
You can still sign up for free virtual tickets and join us wherever you are in the world!
Podcasts
We’ve allowed the licence we had to lapse with Soundcloud and this has lost some of the older podcasts but luckily these were linked here into Substack so are still available! The process of moving them over to YouTube with manually checked subtitles is ongoing as we are using Clipchamp to generate as these can sometimes be slow to process.
YouTube
Webinars and workshops are incredibly popular and we often fill up events like workshops which have restricted numbers. However, we do publish our recordings on YouTube and our three July recordings (embedded below) are:
Interactive plotting with R
Unveiling Congenital Heart Disease and Comorbidities
Open source for analysts and data scientists
Workshops - little known secret…
Upcoming workshops can be signed up to through our website and all are already sold out but, like for the sold out conference, if you add your name to the waiting list we can see what is popular to encourage our lovely volunteers to do another workshop.
We also email details of repeats of courses to those already on the waiting list so if you sign up to an Introduction to R and R Studio course and we get another workshop scheduled in, you are much more likely to be the first to read about it!
Not just R
Finally, although we focus on R for a lot of our events we are not exclusively R and have talks and workshops on Python in a new playlist on YouTube. Please do get in touch if you’d like to give a webinar talk or run a workshop! All details are in the NHS-R Way.
NHS-R Community website
The website is finished! We have all the blogs from the original WordPress site copied over and some have been updated as packages and functions have changed over time (notes are on the blogs where this hasn’t been possible).
We’ve had a few new blogs on the site and any contribution can be recorded on the GitHub site using the All Contributors bot.
We are working on moving to a new event system and once that has been approved for Information Governance and Cyber Security we’ll be switching over to the Quarto website. The reasons for moving to Quarto are:
Quarto is amazing and can be used by R or Python coders!
WordPress sites do get targeted and we are particularly of interest to spammers because our name starts with NHS.
The hosting through GitHub is completely free.
People can practice doing Pull Requests directly to the website and…
Quarto is pretty good at accessibility so some of our statement information can link directly back to issues on the Quarto repository.
If you spot any errors (and there will be some!) and you have a GitHub account do raise an issue and get yourself added to the Contributors board.
No contribution too small!
